Ring Material Types - Metals and Others

Tungsten Carbide Rings

Tungsten Carbide rings are known for their exceptional durability, high hardness (9 on the Mohs scale), and scratch resistance. In their natural finish, they are a sleek, lustrous silver-gray, often described as gunmetal, but they can be provided in other colours as well, such as black, yellow or gold through durable plating methods.

Tungsten Carbide rings have a heavy, solid feel, are hypoallergenic and are available in various styles and finishes, often at a lower cost than gold or platinum. While resistant to bending and scratching, their extreme hardness means they can crack or shatter under extreme impact, and they cannot therefore be resized in the traditional way. Although this means you need to be careful and avoid very strong impacts, they are still very strong and you don't need to treat them like glass.

My Tungsten Carbide rings come in several designs and colours, while some are in their natural silver-grey colour, others are gold or rose-gold plated.

Gold plating makes these rings more affordable than solid gold rings. But extra care needs to be taken since the plating can fade over time if treated roughly, or exposed to harsh chemicals (nail polish removers, hand sanitisers, bleaches...etc.).

If the plating has started to wear off within your first two years of purchase, you may be covered under the warranty agreement depending on the conditions. Please check out the warranty page for further details.

Stainless Steel Rings

Stainless steel rings are durable, corrosion-resistant, and low-maintenance jewellery made from an iron and chromium alloy. They are a popular choice for everyday wear due to their strength, affordability, and hypoallergenic properties, and they come in various styles and finishes like brushed, matte, or glossy.

Because it doesn't tarnish or corrode easily, stainless steel jewellery requires very little upkeep. It can be worn daily without the need for constant cleaning or polishing.

Most stainless steel rings are hypoallergenic, making them a good option for people with metal allergies or sensitive skin. However, some alloys may contain nickel or copper, so some individuals may still experience irritation.

Stainless steel has a sleek, modern appearance that can be adapted to many different styles, from classic signet rings to edgy designs with stones, skulls, or intricate knots.

Ceramic Rings

Ceramic rings are made from high-tech, durable, hypoallergenic, and scratch-resistant materials like titanium carbide, which is incredibly hard. They are lightweight, maintain their finish, and are a good choice for those with metal allergies. However, they can be brittle and may chip or shatter upon heavy impact, and they cannot be resized.

Ceramic rings are extremely resistant to scratches, heat, and daily wear-and-tear, which helps them maintain a long-lasting shine.  These rings are also free from common metal allergens like nickel, making them an excellent option for people with sensitive skin. Rings made from ceramic are surprisingly light, which can often be a key factor in choosing a ring that is right for you.
